The easiest way to create a new page is to search for the page title. Assuming it doesn't already exist, you will be presented with a link to create it.  Don't feel obliged to make it a complete page right away -- if limitations of time/expertise prevent you from completing an article, flag it as a [[:Category:Stubs|Stub]] by putting the text ''<nowiki>{{stub}}</nowiki>'' near the bottom of the page to automatically add it to the category of stubs. To keep the wiki useful please also categorize your pages according to the available [[Special:Categories|categories]]. Although the interface is a near-copy of Wikipedia's, the purpose is not to create another encyclopaedia, even a specialized one. The aim is to create for the nanomaterials lab a collective memory and a place to share instructions, recipes, and tricks that would otherwise percolate unreliably by word of mouth and in the backs of lab books, or be discovered repeatedly by many researchers in turn. For that reason you are encouraged to be opinionated, to write down undocumented facts (although documented ones are of course better!), and to share unsubstantiated hunches boldly. I believe that a wiki is the best way to pool and archive our knowledge.

This is a wiki for the Laird group at Lancaster and our collaborators. It is maintained by Edward Laird.

Getting started

If you are at Lancaster and interested in becoming a user, email Edward. Being a user gives you permission to view and edit wiki pages. If you have expertise of wiki maintenance or running a cloud server and would like to help run the wiki, you are especially welcome.

Editing pages

Editing a page is easy - click on the 'edit' link at the top of the page. Wiki pages are written in a markup language similar to HTML or Latex (but simpler). It's easy to learn by diving into other people's pages, and you can also see For Editors and Editing. If you make a mistake it can easily be reverted (by you or any other user) at any time, so be bold!

Creating pages

The easiest way to create a new page is to search for the page title. Assuming it doesn't already exist, you will be presented with a link to create it. Don't feel obliged to make it a complete page right away -- you can flag a page as a draft by putting the text {{stub}} near the bottom to automatically add it to the Stub category. It is helpful to categorize your pages according to the available categories. For more information, see Starting a new page.

Password reset not working?

Google has changed policy, meaning that Password Reset no longer works. If you lock yourself out, talk to Edward.
